Why Feeding Load Matters
Food entering the pond does not simply disappear. A proportion is converted into fish growth, while the remainder contributes to the biological load that the pond system must process.
This is why feeding rate is a useful engineering input when considering filtration and maintenance. Two ponds with the same water volume and fish count can have very different loads if their feeding regimes are different.
Feeding load should therefore be considered alongside biomass rather than treating fish count as the only measure of stocking pressure.
